Andersen and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) have created the Andersen UPV Chair of Sustainability and Regulated Markets to promote a culture of comprehensive sustainability in companies. The activities of this academic entity, aimed at the business ecosystem as a whole, will pay particular attention to those activities and markets in which, due to their special sensitivity, the legal system establishes more intense levels of regulation.
The Andersen UPV Chair in Sustainability and Regulated Markets, located in the UPV’s Faculty of Business Administration and Management, will convey the importance of this new business culture and practices through training activities with students in subjects of great relevance to companies and institutions, such as sustainability and ESG criteria. It will also address the impact of regulations on heavily regulated sectors such as energy, communications, transportation, and finance, among others. Finally, it will carry out other types of activities such as collaborations in master’s degrees or seminars and specialized publications, as well as specific training programs or programs in collaboration with technology institutes, research activities, internships, scholarships, and awards, among others.
The agreement to create the Chair was signed on Tuesday at the UPV Rector’s Office by José Vicente Morote, Socio Director de Andersen en Iberia, y José Esteban Capilla Romá, Rector de la UPV.
On this occasion, José Vicente Morote stated that “the Chair is a project in which Andersen has been involved since the moment this possibility arose. Firstly, because Andersen has always maintained close ties with the academic world, and because continuous training and teaching are part of our culture. Secondly, because we are convinced of the importance of connecting academic activity with the business world, especially in a novel subject with such relevant legal and social implications as sustainability and ESG criteria, areas in which Andersen has highly specialized teams. And finally, because the Polytechnic University of Valencia is a highly prestigious institution and a benchmark in the Valencian Community and in Spain as a whole, and we are delighted to be able to collaborate closely with it in the field of training and research.”
For her part, Virginia Vega, director of the Chair, highlighted the opportunities offered by the Andersen UPV Chair in Sustainability and Regulated Markets: “This academic space will prepare students to understand the complexities of corporate sustainability and provide them with practical tools and access to specialized knowledge. This will position them as future leaders in a global market that increasingly demands legal and ethical knowledge to address challenges such as climate change and energy transition.”
Also present at the event on behalf of Andersen were Ignacio Aparicio, Executive Partner at Andersen; Benjamín Prieto, Partner at Andersen and director of the Andersen office in Valencia; Vicente Sanz, Partner at Andersen; and Rafael Ripoll, Of Counsel. And, on behalf of the UPV, María Dolores Salvador Moya, Vice-Rector for Employment and Continuing Education at the UPV; María del Mar Marín Sánchez, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration at the UPV; Malak Kubessi, Director of the UPV’s Business and Employment Chairs area; and Carlos Ripoll, Deputy Director of the Rector’s Office.
