Andersen improves its ranking in The Legal 500 with nine top areas and new individual recognitions

The firm is ranked in the "Industry focus: Food" area and Ignacio Aparicio is included as Leading Individual in the "Corporate, Commercial and M&A" area.

The Legal 500, one of the world's leading international legal directories, has released its ranking of the best law firms, departments and partners for 2020. The directory has highlighted Andersen in the areas of "Industry Focus: Food", "Commercial, Corporate and M&A", "Dispute Resolution", "Employment", "Real Estate and Construction", "Restructuring and Insolvency", "Public Law", "Tax" and "Banking & Finance".

Specifically, the firm is recognised for the first time in the Industry Focus: Food category, highlighting the work the firm has carried out for food companies and associations in a wide variety of matters, especially in the areas of commercial and tax and customs. The area includes Tomás Rivero as team leader and Ignacio Aparicio, who is described as "an outstanding business lawyer with superb knowledge and knows how to support large corporations".

Public Law, the practice area led by José Vicente Morote, rises in this edition of the ranking to Tier 4, in an edition in which the directory has recognised the "very sound and specialised environmental legal practice". Among others, from The Legal 500 include authorities at different levels of the public sector as some of the clients advised and sectors such as water, ports, telecommunications, energy or health. Along with Morote, the work of Carlos Mínguez, with a "great experience and technical understanding" and of Arancha Bengoechea is considered significant.

The directory singles out the Commercial, Corporate and M&A area for its "global business vision, commitment, pragmatism and ease of teamwork" as well as Ignacio Aparicio as head of the team from the Valencia office and of the Cuban Desk, who is included for the first time in the Leading Individual category. The publication also highly values the work carried out in this area by Adargelio Garrido, José Trujillo and José Deusa

Within the area of Dispute Resolution, Andersen's Arbitration practice continues to stand out, which the directory values as offering a "broad and deep knowledge about international commercial arbitration and is able to handle highly complex cross-border disputes to the highest quality". Within the Litigation area, The Legal 500 includes in its assessment the three expert lawyers who lead the team: Íñigo Rodríguez-Sastre, Benjamín Prieto and José María Rebollo, as well as their areas of expertise in the field.

Andersen's Employment practice is recognised for its expertise in strategic and reputational advice - especially for the broad portfolio of multinational companies seeking assistance on cross-border issues - as well as in post-insolvency reorganisation, areas in which Alfredo Aspra and Pedro Alonso are mentioned as "professionals of a high technical level", as well as the Barcelona team with Pablo Santos, Jaime Silva and Sergio Juárez, specialising in tribunals.

In the areas of Real Estate and Construction, the firm has extensive experience in the acquisition of real estate assets, sales, leases, joint ventures, financing, refinancing and Listed Investment Companies on the Property Market, as well as urban planning and construction. In this area, José Vicente Morote, together with Antonio Ñudi and Carlos Peña, as well as Maite Hernández, is the director of the area.

The Restructuring and Insolvency sector has been included with the mention of Javier Mata as co-head of the team, together with Álvaro Gámez Serracarbassa, from Barcelona, to whom they attribute the management of a wide variety of matters, from corporate restructurings and debt recovery to the acquisition of companies and assets, among others, with special mention of the rapid growth thanks to the work carried out during the pandemic.

For the Tax area of Andersen, The Legal 500 has valued the team as "very attentive to detail and very accessible" in the wide range of matters on which they advise, their expertise in transfer pricing, M&A, private equity, joint ventures, tax planning and restructuring, among others. María Olleros is included as head of the team together with Toni Prat.

Finally, the Banking & Finance area stands out for its dedication to financial operations for companies, as well as acquisitions and financial projects, with a focus on financial regulation and the fintech sector. The board singles out Guillermo Yuste and Carlos Salinas, both in charge of the area, for their specialisation and expertise in the sector.

Legal 500 publishes its annual rankings based on the research and assessment of the different transactions carried out by the firms in the last 12 months, together with the experience of the professional teams, the services offered and, especially, the opinions of the clients of each of the firms.
